Our clocks have gone back one hour, Please help your child / children to adjust to this time change. Students are invited into school when the combined temperature falls below -20c (Blue Days). If we have heavy precipitation, no matter what the temperature reads, supervision is provided inside school. During other weather conditions, students will be supervised outside.
Breakfast club begins at 7:40am and ends promptly at 7:55am. Students are then sent to their entrance door in order to prepare for entering into classrooms.
We are very pleased to see parents involved in school activities. Field experience whether on a bus trip or on a walking exploration near school, would not be possible without additional adult support. It was so exciting for the school to be supported by families when we asked for pumpkin donations. Pumpkins are still being used to explore many areas of the curriculum. At one point I saw one family bring in ten pumpkins to be distributed to classroom as needed.
Please check for these unwanted items and send to school, attention Hazel Wallace: We are preparing fun activities for when it's too cold to go outside during the lunch recess break:
-embroidery thread (to make friend ship bracelets)
-beads (to make friendship bracelets)
-safety pins
-colouring books (a variety)
-unwanted cribbage (cribb) boards
-wool or yarn for weaving
-thick cardboard cut into child size pieces to make weaving looms
-Lego or other building materials
-playing cards
-any unwanted games in good condition
Teachers communicate student progress in many ways. At formal face to face teacher interviews (November and March), with a written report on academic competencies two times a year. For Valley View School, our two formal written reporting periods are January and June. In-between our more formal situations, teachers make phone calls, communicate by email and through our on-line teacher Blogs. Parents / Guardians are invited to check with the classroom teacher if on-going academic or other areas of student growth, appears to be unknown as we progress between informal, formal and face to face meeting periods. Our November parent teacher interviews will be on November 16 in the afternoon from 4:00 - 7:30 and again on November 17 from 8:00 - 11:30. Details on how to book a time with your child's teacher will be in teacher’s blogs by the end of the day on Tuesday.
Valley View Staff are committed to addressing the individual needs of students. We are focused on improving math achievement and this plan will be outlined in our School Development Plan (SDP) to be published later on in November. Additional school initiatives and news are discussed during our once a month School Council meetings and funding to support teaching and learning is discussed in our School Society meeting immediately after the school council meeting. Please come out to join our discussions the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm. The next School Council meeting is November 14, 2017 in the staffroom. Looking forward to seeing new faces and to having great discussions.
